G.R.I.T.S = Girls Raised in the South!
I got this cool G.R.I.T.S. Outlaws shirt in Austin last month. I love the look of leather pants and concho belts. This one is my mother's, she got it in Santa Fe twenty years ago. These pics were taken on the ride back to Dallas yesterday morning! We drove nine hours and were still in the same state...wow!

When we arrived in Big Springs, Texas, we had no idea that we were stopping in one of the creepiest towns in America. We spent the night there in the Hotel Settles on our way to Marfa. The hotel has been recently redone, and it is spectacularly beautiful. We enjoyed a nice dinner and spent a while in their Pharmacy bar, where we got to talk to some of the employees and the sheriff. They warned us of all the unsettled spirits that inhabit the hotel and recounted many of their own supernatural experiences! (Flickering lights, apparitions, exploding glasses!) Right after hearing all of this, I checked my instagram. My picture of the hotel lobby was flooded with comments of people claiming to see a 'skull' in the photo! How creepy is that?? Big Spring itself is a pretty spooky place. Paul Harvey has said, "If you want to commit murder and get away with it, go to Big Spring, TX.".
The bad juju in the place was undeniable. My mom and I both woke up at 3 AM, she had felt a huge gust of freezing air come over her and then suddenly there was this weirdly human-sounding tapping in our room. We both heard it! It was as if something was trying to get our attention.
Still, we loved Hotel Settles and want to return some day soon. The beautiful ballroom we shot in was my favorite part. We are now safely in Marfa and have been having the time of our lives. Cannot wait to share more!
Now I get to show off some of my own Red Valentino! I absolutely love this dress, it has a very Western saloon feel to it. Perfect for a Texas girl. The Rochas Victorian-style granny boots were made for it!

I love to pile on layers of black, since it is the color that goes with everything. I recently styled a look for Michael Stars wearing some of their new spring collection recently...here I am wearing a sleeveless muscle tank and shirred skirt by Michael Stars with a Richard Chai shearling aviator jacket and vintage mens ankle boots.
So plain yesterday. Wearing a thrifted turtleneck, Anine Bing jeans, Dries Van Noten pumps, RRL D-Ring belt, and a faux fur stole borrowed from my mom.
I have been really excited to share this series! I did three looks with three different vintage Chanel jackets, all with the Chimala denim ankle pants. I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm in love with these jeans.
First off is the classic black & white boucle Chanel jacket. Worn with a vintage flower brooch, Martin Margiela yellow puffer clutch, and Balenciaga sandals.
Next is a emerald tweed epaulette Chanel jacket, worn with the Chimala jeans, a lace camisole, vintage jewel necklace, enamel bracelets, and Dries Van Noten beaded sandals.
Finally, a classic cropped black & white vintage Chanel jacket with a massive Hanna Bernhard ram brooch, Monroe tissue tank, 1930s beaded necklace and 1970s beaded choker, Chimala jeans, and Chanel tulle bowtie booties.
Now here comes some real style!! While we were shooting this story, my mom's neighbors walked by with their fabulous 7 year old poodle Tasha. She's my new fashion icon. I want a pink afro and a black polo shirt now too.
I have seen so many pictures of Jenna Lyons wearing the Chimala jeans lately! I love the way she styles them. It inspires me to play with mine more. I am so glad I got these jeans, I debated for a year on them before I took the plunge and got them in November. I am getting my wears worth out of them! Nothing like 100% cotton denim. One day I'm going to post a huge rant about how much I hate stretchy jeans but that is another post for another day. Back in Dallas and enjoying the kind of weather that allows this type of layering. It doesn't last long here!
