Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I went out with my mom to shoot some of our favorite accessories-of course I pulled out the suede Margiela 'Marfa' boots. Just for kicks I pulled out this rainbow skirt I got at a thrift store for two dollars. Serendipity. The colors matched up perfectly. Long live barfy pastels!

These boots are so precious to me...I think I will wear this skirt and these boots together this fall, topped with a huge pale grey cashmere turtleneck.

THANK YOU for the amazing response to the art contest! Your entries are blowing me away!

I have created a Flickr Gallery of all of the entries. Go check them out! Thank you so much to the readers who are sending these in!

Submissions are open until November 1st-I don't know how I will be able to choose my favorites.

 xo Jane

P.S. You can enter to win my top three shoe picks at Barney's--go sign up! Ann Demeulemeester, Henry Cuir, Rochas...sigh.

Sea of Shoes Spring Fashion Art Contest

Hi guys!

I've been wanting to hold an art contest on my blog for a very long time, and with the spring fashion shows under way, I figure this is the perfect time to do it.

The idea is to pick your favorite runway look from the spring shows, and to render your own interpretation of it in a sketch.  Email it to me-I will let you know that I recieved it! In a month I will choose my fifteen favorite submissions and post them here on Sea of Shoes.

This is not so much a contest as it is a fun way to celebrate fashion designers and share my readers' artwork. I know have many talented readers. I hope that even people who do not consider themselves artistically inclined decide to enter this-its just for fun! All skill levels and all ages are encouraged to participate-if you have children who would like to submit their art I would love to see it!

I did an example entry to show the idea of this contest--I chose my favorite runway look from Meadham Kirchhoff's show in London two weeks ago.

(See? Any skill level can do it ;))

-It is *highly preferable* that you scan your entry when you send it to me. If you are able to take a high quality, well-lit photo that will work too. Please no iPhone snapshots of your drawings-I want to do your entry justice if I post it! Please send them in full resolution if possible (or at least 700px wide)

-Please attach a picture of the runway look you have chosen to illustrate. It must be from the spring 2011 season. Go to Style.com or Vogue.com or Elle.com to look at runway pictures!

-Feel free to go as far out as you want with your interpretation of your chosen runway look. If you want to draw a dog wearing your favorite Dolce & Gabanna of the season, please do not let me hold you back ;-) Mixed media and digital illustration is allowed--someone is even entering a cake!

-When I post my favorite entries, I will be including your name, age, location, and web presence if possible. If you don't feel comfortable sharing these things, then you do not have to include them. Let me know if you only want me to post your first name or an alias. If you have a blog or website or Flickr account or whatever, I will be sure to link to it if I post your entry.

-One entry per person

A name you feel comfortable publishing:

Country or city:

*Attach your entry and the runway image

Email this form to jane@seaofshoes.com. Put 'Art Contest' as the subject title.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me or tweet them to me. I am so excited about this contest and I really hope some of my readers participate! I will be posting the fifteen entries I most enjoyed on November 1st. When the contest is done I will create a gallery on my Facebook page of all of the submissions. I am really looking forward to seeing the entries!!

Wearing vintage patched Levi's (one of my most prized possessions) with The Dress & Co blouse and leather suspenders I got in Japan. The lace up booties are Prada 2006.

I am obsessed with all of the things I got from The Dress & Co. Opening Ceremony carries a selection of their things now...I hope that next season they buy more. I love how heavy this blouse is--real quality design.

If I don't get around to posting until this weekend, its because I'm taking an unexpected jaunt to New York. Yikes..dreading the flight. Until next time!

No words to capture my love for these spotted Alaia ponyhair hiking booties...

Worn with a 70's Mongolian lamb fur jacket, Levi's jeans, and a hot pink Comme des Garcons square scarf I stole from my mom.

I was recently sent this season's beautiful Jil Sander shoes.

Can't get over the detail on them!!

Today I went to grab lunch at the Prairie House in Roanoke. Not too many non-meat items so I went for the kids grilled cheese, served with smiley fries. Pretty demented. I don't like my food to smile at me.

I like that they serve their iced tea in humongous mason jars.

I saw a lot of real cowboys at the Prairie House too.

Have a great weekend!

Today is a quick outfit post because I'm anxious to show off this vintage necklace I just got. Look at how happy he is. I love his bow tie and his absurd eyelashes. He has eight eyelashes but only seven legs. Go figure. I would really like to know who the designer was, as this piece isn't signed. He's one in a million, isn't he?

Worn with vintage Emanuel Ungaro dress, vintage Yves Saint Laurent corset belt, and Barney's Co-Op over the knee boots.
