I noticed this at both Haider Ackermann and Rick Owens for F/W 08...casual slouchy shorts pulled on over tough-girl leather pants. An interesting way to tone down the bad-ass of leather pants. Haider Ackermann's tonal equestrianettes are undeniably reminiscent of Rick Owen's work: it's almost uncanny to see such an obscure look pop up at these two shows. I think it's especially cool with the sculptural, scrunchy boots/pants at Rick Owens....if I manage to get my hands on a pair of the perfect leather pants I'd definitely like to mimic this look...
Today I was poking around my mom's closet and was compelled to try on her beautiful vintage Oscar de la Renta bolero jacket. It's velvet and the beaded detailing is canary yellow. Like my mom I've always had a thing for 40's bolero jackets...I want to find one to wear with jeans. If I could find the right pair of high waisted jeans to wear with this I would! For trying it on today though I wore it with a bandage skirt by the Row and patent ankle strap Alaias.
Didn't actually wear it out though. Today I'm just cleaning house with my family, watching Dynasty, and spending some quality time with my dogs. I'm wearing a piece of my mom's old clothing line right now-her Russian wedding skirt. It was one of her best sellers. I wear it with a sweater by Velvet and...bare feet!
Just yesterday I picked up this super cute jumpsuit at Target, it's part of their current (anonymous?) GO collection. I was so thrilled, I've always loved jumpsuits but it's hard to find sensible ones without too much cutsey detailing. This is one is very practical and I'm going to wear it to death! Last night I was experimenting with ways to wear it and came up with my Comme Des Garcons 'glove love' shirt as the perfect thing to slip over it. I like it because it's completely monochromatic. Most people didn't even see the gloves when I wore it today until they came up to talk to me! (this shirt causes something of a sensation whenevver I wear it, as do these shoes...everyone wants to touch the gloves!)
I am standing in front of my mom's shoe closet...I wish I had a such nice shelfing as she does!
and here are some detail shots of my outfit today;
Very fun outfit to wear, I just love my new find. It's inspired me to seek out more jumpsuits...it makes getting dressed so easy!
More posts to come later,
Word has gotten out that there is a collaboration in the works between Acne Jeans and Alber Elbaz...this comes as a huge shock to me. Elbaz- the man who has made Lanvin synonymous with unbridled femenine glory thanks to his slinky gowns- working with denim, the fabric of the classic American worker! A million images started flashing through my mind: think the glamour of Charlie's Angels, who paired flattering high waisted jeans with satin, sexy blouses. I am eager to see what Elbaz envisions for Acne-the Lanvin look doesn't always translate well to day-to-day life but denim is unfailingly wearable...the collaboration will be launched in 2009 so it will be while till we find out. ;)
