My Photo

July 07, 2008

yikes, it might be summer but I feel like I've been busy-Sea of Shoes has turned into an outfit-only blog! I apologize, I'll try to blog some more stuff this week. My family isn't in town any more so today it's just my mom and my sister and I again-out to lunch then a movie with some friends?

Today I wear my Custo Barcelona cardigan, Mischen skirt, tank from Target, Dries Van noten sandals.

^This is our dog Staci-she looks so cute here!! Staci is a jack russel terrier/chihuahua/italian greyhound mix...she's neurotic but really sweet.

Favorite vintage pieces-part 1

A few nights ago my mom and I took some of our favorite pieces of vintage/thrifted clothing items to style-and took pictures! On Monday my mom and I went to a Goodwill that has unsually high volume of vintage asian jackets, which sort of fit into the luxe robe look that I posted about a few posts back. I've been working these pieces around a Fall 07 Miu Miu skirt that I got at our Neiman's outlet during a sale. I wish I had up-close pictures of the fabric (it's so cool!) but I just sent it to the tailor to be taken in a little.

Thrifted satin coat, H&M tank top, Miu Miu pleated skirt, Chloe shoeboot

Here mom is wearing her sixties studded Givenchy shift. It was a great find on eBay. She wears it over Hysteric Glamour jeans with Prada heels.

This angora sweater I'm wearing was about to be trashed by my mom's friend-it was rescued and bought to me and is now one of my favorite cold weather pieces. The angora is so luxe that it looks like a fur coat.

Worn with Miu Miu skirt, sequin tube top from UO, Margiela boots

Mom just got this vintage Chanel jacket from eBay-paired again with Hysteric Glamour jeans and Givenchy lace up heels.

Those are just a few of the things we tried on-later I hope to do another post full of my favorite vintage things-there are so many waiting to be worn in the back of my closet.

Happy Fourth of July to American readers!

quick outfit post!

So I don't have much time to post right at this moment, I'm about to go to Northpark with my mom and my sister and my little cousin-I have a lot of family in town right now. But I was just going to post this quick outfit before I head off-will update later tonight! :)
In this picture I wear: a vintage crinoline from Pandemonium vintage store in Dallas, Adidas cardigan, some Fendi pointy toed flats circa 199

Here's a picture of the shoes, they are really cute....just SUPER hard to walk in!

Yeah, ironic how I don't have a problem walking in six inch platforms (do you know that is how tall my Marni criss cross platforms with the lucite in the sole are?? six and a half actually) but I'm hobbling around in my mom's 3/4 inch tall slides.

Vintage Levi's and SS06 Pradas DAY TWO

You may have noticed my fanatic obsession for worn in denim (it's always peeking out of the corners of my inspiration boards)....it's so difficult to find vintage Levi's for women in tiny sizes but I managed to snag this pair on eBay in my size for $20 while I was in Mexico...they're so beautiful! They arrived in the mail today.

^(don't mind the awful picture quality...) today I'm repeating yesterday's ensemble a bit with a simple shirt (cotton button down from J Crew), Pradas (which thanks to some helpful readers I found are from SS06), and a See by Chloe puffer vest.

If you like these jeans you will freak out over these two looks from a spread in Doingbird magazine (issue number 13?) these pictures were scanned by Alien Sex Fiend at TFS...thanks!

Yikes, I've embarked on a closet cleaning project as of today...what a pain, but a necessary pain.
Flared flannel orange plaid high waisted pants....whuuuutt
where do I find these things....

7 songs of summer

I was tagged by Rosie of La Mode Vogue...to choose my seven favorite songs of summer!

1. SORRY PARTY by Tickley Feather
^SOMEONE NEEDS TO USE THIS SONG ON A RUNWAY SOUNDTRACK! PRONTO!

2. AVALON by Roxy Music
All time favorite album for the summer-Avalon is a great song. Reminds me of summer hangouts with your friends.

3. NEW VIOLENCE by White Williams
Hella peppy and sorta dancy-I have a huge crush on White Williams.

4. EVERYBODY DAYLIGHT by Brightblack Morning Light
Well, I would choose this whole album but I can only choose one song...sloooow and steady and kinda groovy.

5. WAITING FOR THE SUMMER by Yeasayer
Makes me happy to be alive...such a cool sound, I missed the chance to see them in Dallas recently and I was super bummed.

6. CHEREE by Suicide
Breathy sexy innocent and manic-I LOVE SUICIDE!

7. BABY by Os Mutantes
Not really typical of Os Mutantes sound but so so so summery.

Dinner with my family tonight-and some new shoes

Shirt from J. Crew, vintage Levi's 501s, Banana Republic belt, Prada shoes

This pair of Pradas are 'new'...mom and I got them to share because they were a ridiculously good price on eBay, but I don't know what season they are from?? Am I just totally out of the loop...maybe they're a few years old, I'm just not remembering seeing anything like them. In any case, they're very now...I've seriously been feeling open toe booties (see Givenchy F/W 08!!) and these are such a nice buttery color. Maybe I'll do a seperate post about them later.

Shopping mission-

These outfits got me thinking that a slinky silk robe in some sort of tiled glamourous print is just what I needed...I love the way Vivienne stuck her pins all over hers! Vintage costume brooches are the perfect thing to dress up a robe..I have one of a spaniel completely covered in rhinestones! Maybe I could even score Anthropologie for their pajama sets-there is also a Goodwill in Euless that always has satin Chinese robes! Carrie's opera coat is so fabulous, I wish I could find something like it.

Sort of 40's glamour queen/today's drag queen/poor little rich girl/eccentric recluse allure....

Sex in the City obsessing...

For those of you who saw Sex in the City (and if you haven't, you should grab you girlfriends tonight and goooo!) and if you have an indexed memory of the various Carrie outfits in it: you will recall an outfit Carrie wore with really awesome vintage looking button fly jeans with a slashed up tank top: like someone had just taken scissors and cut slits in it. It was so sexy and fresh! I love how Patricia Field's styling is always timeless and femenine-it never looks trendy or trying to hard and has a healthy dose of personality to it. But anyway, BACK TO THAT TANK TOP.

It would have been totally easy to DIY this and probably cooler, and I was planning to when I got back but while I was away my mom found a slashed up heather grey tank on sale somewhere that was a lot like the one I had in mind.

Today I wore it out to lunch with my mom and her friend Kelly...worn with a hanes tank underneith for decency's sake, a Y-3 mini skirt, Ann Demeulemeester vest, those Dries Van Noten sandals again, a Custo Barcelona scarf, and a mixed group of bangles that I steal from my mom's jewlery box on a regular basis.

^ Better picture of the tank top (and bangles)!

After lunch we picked up the entire six season set of Sex in the City: 96 episode you guys!! This will keep me entertained for ages!! Def. having a marathon with one of my best friends tomorrow night!
